Colorful play of colors
18. Januar 2024
Thanks to the support of the Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation, the CityInitiative was once again a highlight for visitors and bathed the city in a magical sea of lights. On January 14, 2024, the projectors went out and the colorful play on prominent buildings in Bremen city center ended.
On 17 days starting at 4:30 p.m., over 20 different, bright projectors were switched on at 11 different locations in Bremen to illuminate prominent facades in the city center. The play of colors culminated on January 13, 2024 in the cooperation event with the 39th Bremen Carnival in the “small bustle of lights”. Stilt walkers in fairy-tale, illuminated costumes enriched the downtown atmosphere and gave the illuminated buildings additional life.
After four years now, the “Lights of the City” are known beyond the borders of Bremen and attract not only domestic visitors but also tourists to the city. Numerous press reports and posts on social networks testify to the enormous appeal of this project. This year, among other things, the University of the Arts building and the Overseas Museum were included for the first time. The change of motif on January 6, 2024 allowed the Übersee-Museum to shine with club motifs in the colors green and white on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of SV Werder Bremen .
The idea for “Lights of the City” came about in 2020 as an alternative event to the Christmas market, which had to be canceled due to the global pandemic. The commitment and pioneering spirit of the Senator for Economics, Ports and Transformation made this special highlight possible in recent years. Bremer is three times Right and with a wink it can be concluded that after four successful “Lights of the City” a “customary law” has emerged for the citizens of Bremen.
“The “Lights of the City” has quickly become a flagship project for Bremen’s city center and strengthens the quality of stay and experience in the city, especially in the dark season. Canceling this event would be a fatal and disappointing sign. Especially in view of the political objectives of the last few years and the great commitment to strengthening the quality of stay and experience in Bremen city center. We will continue to try to generate funds to allow the event to take place in the future,” confirms Carolin Reuther, Managing Director of the CityInitiative.
The CityInitiative project team is optimistic about the continuation of this complex project and hopes that, due to the positive feedback from politicians and the population, appropriate funding can be provided and acquired by the Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation and additional third-party funds from sponsors' commitments .
